About Us
Simon Hill. Professional master carpenter since 1995 as well as musician and cellist has focused his exceptional craftsmanship and love of string instruments in the repair and rebuilding of violins.
I offer a reasonably-priced violin repair and set-up service for students, amateurs, string-lovers and professional performers and teachers.
Why is getting your violin set up important or even necessary?
Well, most new instruments are imported with a ‘factory’ set-up. The exporters know that conditions in your country are likely to be very different from theirs and so they put on generic fittings like the strings and the bridge, and even the nut and the fingerboard, expecting that you will get a local luthier or supplier to adjust your instrument when you get it.
The way these items are shaped and fitted on your violin can make a huge difference to how it sounds, how easy it is to play and how it responds to you.
